-- You Never Know What You Are Truly Capable Of Doing Until You Try -- Writer and Baker? I have been meaning to share this post with you all since last summer! If you can't tell from all of my blogs, I find joy and peace in writing. I took a creative writing class during my sophomore year of college. Weirdly enough, I was a little apprehensive about taking that course because a majority of it was focused on poetry. I love writing, but I literally can't stand writing poetry. I think it comes down to the fact that I just don't have a knack for it. This being said I do greatly appreciate those who are gifted in this department and am in awe of the beauty they can create with words alone.  Anyways, our final project for this class was to submit one of the pieces we worked on throughout the year to a publisher of our choosing in hopes of being published in a literary journal. At the time, I viewed submitting my work as a check off of my long to-do list. (I couldn't pass the...

Three Orders in One Week!

 Juggling Life and Cookies

A Picture Heavy Post!

I had quite the cookie lineup last week! While many other cookiers probably see three orders in a week as their normal, it seemed like a lot for me as I was juggling work, midterms, and life in general. These three orders were also slightly more labor intensive due to the fact that I had never done any of these designs before. Although, I am so glad I accepted every single one because I was able to practice so many NEW things including line art, detailed piping, watercolor, and realistic imaging.

Everyone is busy in their own way, so I try to remind myself not to complain about how much is on my plate. Instead, I try to adopt an attitude of gratitude when it comes to my schedule. Being busy is definitely a positive thing when it comes to my bakery business. If I never had cookie orders, my business would never thrive. Fully booked weeks demonstrate to me that people are enjoying my product and value the work I produce. Hooray for jam-packed weeks and beautiful cookies!!

As mentioned in my sub-title, today's post will be picture heavy. I am still decompressing from last week's craziness, so what better way to do that than to revisit cookie pictures!? I hope you enjoy looking at these three VERY distinct client orders. Let's get into it!

Order 1: Violin Concert Cookies

I started the week off strong with cookies fit for a concert! One of my very first customers ordered these cookies for her daughter's first violin recital. After giving her the cookies, she was telling me about what she does with every one of my orders. Since the first batch of cookies I baked for her in 2020, she has frozen one cookie from every single set. What an awesome way to preserve memories! I thought this tradition was so special!

Cookies in this set included: violins, eighth notes, and treble clefs

Honestly considered learning how to play an instrument while making these!

Order 2: Split-Set (Dirtbikes and Mermaids)

I can't emphasize this enough...I had SO MUCH fun with this set! These cookies were for siblings turning 9 and 6! Originally, I was apprehensive about the split-set concept because dirt bikes and mermaids are two completely different themes. In a weird sort of way, they meshed wonderfully! Here is a brief list of things I loved about this project.

I LOVED...
  • THE COLORS! It is not very often that I have the opportunity to make teal, pink, or purple. If someone gifted me birthday cookies, this color palette is exactly what I would want!
  • THE CHALLENGE! I mulled ideas around for weeks on how I would incorporate dirt bikes on the cookies. Not going to lie, the image I piped was the most tedious design I have ever attempted. It turned out amazing and the initial challenge inspired me to try more complex images in the future!
  • THE DETAIL! I am absolutely in love with the mermaid tails! There is so much tiny scale detailing that makes the cookies come alive.
  • THE SIBLING COMBO! This order honestly reminded me of my brother and me when we were younger. Just like this epic sibling duo, Levi and I are three years apart too. We also shared very different interests as children. Being able to see the siblings receive their separate cookie sets for the first time brought me so much joy. Siblings are truly one of the greatest gifts in life!! Look below for a little sibling highlight ;)
Best friends eat cotton candy ice cream together!

The sibling bond still going strong!

OK! Let's take a look at the cookies now! I am on the edge of my seat...are you?!

Cookies in this set included: mermaid tails, seashells, "six", dirtbikes, and "nine"

I love the pearl embellishments!

Here is the scale detailing I mentioned!

Dirtbikes couldn't have turned out any better!

*Side note: Exactly five minutes after I posted these on social media, I received a pre-order for the same design in May!

Order 3: 70th Birthday Celebration!

My final order of the week introduced me to a lot of new things! In particular, I learned how to watercolor on cookies and make line art! I was a little worried to try something new for the first time on an actual order, but everything went as smoothly as it could have gone. Cheers to learning brand new skills and being the last order of the week!!

A little gold watercolor and some line art! The perfect duo!

Time for a Nap!

It is truly amazing what we can accomplish in a single week with a little perseverance and determination! I love being busy because it means I get to produce super cool cookies like these! I also love showing you all that I create and the little stories behind them. Try new things and accept new opportunities! Juggling different roles may seem overwhelming at times, but I am here to assure you that you are doing a fantastic job!

Simply do the best that you can in whatever it may be! I am always here cheering you on! Enjoy the rest of your week and share a smile with someone today😊

  1. Love reading about your process and progress for growth and overcoming fears and challenges! It takes me back to when I first started making cupcakes and cakes. Nervousness and excitement about the unknown and how to have the right mindset in order to rise up and meet the challenge!
